Energy Star rehab provides comfort and efficiency in older home
Looking to upgrade her house on Pittsburgh’s South Side, this homeowner turned to Energy Star, a national program offering a comprehensive approach to energy efficiency and comfort. We completed a rehab that exceeded Energy Star guidelines. The renovation brought back the home’s ten-foot ceilings and larger window openings and added French doors with transoms to take in views of downtown Pittsburgh. The homeowner enjoys the benefits of a new home in an early 1900s Pittsburgh house, including:
Updated and expanded eat-in kitchen using Energy Star appliances and lighting
Redesigned bedrooms, closets and bathrooms
Enlarged, efficient windows maximizing natural light
Increased functionality and storage by relocating laundry area to second floor
Upgraded whole-house heating with Energy Star boiler and hot water on-demand heating
Added comfort with attic and basement cellulose insulation and air sealants
New HEPA air-filtration system
Other “green” features including engineered lumber and marmoleum
